I am a passionate arborist aiming to provide honest advice and professional work for the care and preservation of your trees and landscape. I strive to deliver a trustworthy, friendly and efficient service covering most aspects of tree surgery, whilst caring for our environment and eco-system. Work is always carried out with maximum respect for your garden and property.
It is my job to provide solutions and practices that will maximise your tree and garden vitality and atmosphere. I come armed with knowledge and a keen eye for pruning and tree aesthetics, and use expert techniques and equipment to tackle health and safety concerns or problematic trees.
I am Alfie Sutcliffe, a freelance arboricultural contractor (tree surgeon) based in Pembrokeshire with 10 years of industry experience. I have a passion for trees and working with trees.
I studied arboriculture at Merrist Wood College in 2012 where I gained the industries necessary NPTC certificates and a great deal of knowledge. I then worked as a contract climber, before starting Alfie Sutcliffe Tree Care in 2014 in Leeds and later moving to Bristol in 2018, then to Pembrokeshire.
I love living in Pembrokeshire, where I continue to broaden my knowledge and understanding of the fascinating world of trees and Arboriculture. And in my own time I enjoy surfing, climbing, mountain biking, running and walking with my dogs.
Green working practises
I care greatly about trees, wildlife and the eco-system, and my work reflects this. Some examples of greener practices being:
only felling trees where necessary and suggesting alternative pruning solutions to felling;
respecting nesting birds and wildlife;
providing habitat and other benefits by encouraging the planting of suitable trees, hedges and woodlands;
where possible, creating habitat stacks and wild places for insect diversity;
advising on suitable seasons to carry out the work;
using biodegradable chain oil;
avoiding chemical spray weedkillers or pesticides;
using hand saw for pruning;
finding a use for suitable timber and the wood chip of trees that have been felled (when planked and made into something such as furniture the carbon is locked up, until the wood work is burned or decomposed back into the ground).
Safety standards
Myself and all subcontractors are experienced, skilled and qualified. All tree work operations comply with British Standard (BS3998:2010) and I hold £5 million Public Liability insurance.
